My name is John Climaldi, and this is my ongoing ramblings about cycling and bike culture on the island of Oahu, Hawaii and beyond. This page loads kind of slow, so please be patient. The old bent blog can be found here, just in case you want look at an archive posting. Aloha!

That’s right bentheads, I have another DF (diamond frame). This time it rivals a recumbent for comfort, and it can be packed in an airline legal case! Just the thing if I ever get island fever. This bike really rocks! A Surly Travelers Check complete with S&S Machine couplers, Velo Orange front rack and front bag, Chris King BB and head set, Ultegra components, Selle An-Atomica saddle and matching leather bar tape, Honjo Pounded fenders, and of course a Japanese bell. This is the bike 90% of the people should be riding! Comfortable, fast, and it can carry stuff. Oh, and it weighs 25 pounds! Not to shabby considering what it can do. Perfect for Hawaii!
Although travel bike would be nice, and since Surly is making the Cross Check with S&S machine couplers, I couldn’t resist! What’s a bike junkie to do? Chris King BB and Headset, Shimano compact crank, Sella An Atomica leather sadle, and a polished Dura Ace wheelset. I am looking for Honjo fenders to round out the package. Should be a great commuter and all around Island bike.

A really nice fellow that I have had the pleasure of riding with on several occasions. Since moving to Hawaii Chaz has been sending a steady stream of photos from his rides and hikes. Eastern Oregon is very diverse, from flat farmland to mountain peaks and everything in between. There are four seasons, so the beauty of this area is magnified during a winter snowfall or the blooming of spring flowers. I never think about living on a small island in the pacific until I get his photos. Long un-interrupted stretches of road and lots of blue sky. I really need to get over there.
